Why We Started

It is proven that when women communicate, open up and share their story to one another, whatever story that one is sharing, in one way or the other, it triggers a thought or a memory or a feeling to the other person. Through that communication, we open up for purposes of relieving ourselves of pain and stress that we might be encountering in our lives at a particular moment.

We, as women have derailed from having authentic conversations with each other because we have stopped caring for one another. Instead, we seem to be jealous of one another and we also laugh at each other painful situations and circumstances. This movement is aimed at changing that narrative and stimulating conversations around societal issues and challenges that we as women are faced with. Most importantly, it is about resuscitating that women instinct of warmth, caring, sharing and celebrating of ones successes, happiness and supporting one another.

What We Do

The movement is designed to focus on two pillars, namely:

A. The Girl Child Empowerment Programme

The landscape of girlhood has changed dramatically in the last 20 years since the year 2000. Social media has taken over and the young people of today have transformed in the way that they interact and approach the world and their communities. It has become very important when it comes to their self-discovery and identification.

Based on such, a solid foundation for building strong women that have healthy attitudes, lifestyles and a positive approach and outlook towards life is key.

The girl child empowerment programme is a girl-centered programme targeting girls from the age of 15 to 19 years old (grade 9-12), from the best and the worst backgrounds imaginable. The reason for this specific age range is because according to the development milestones, the years between 15 and 18 can be very instrumental in helping a teen mature and gain the skills she needs to become a responsible adult. In terms of social development this age range views friends and friendships as being very important and they experiment with various personas and activities based on what their peers are doing.

The aim of this programme is

• To encourage interactive friendship while also encouraging each girl to express and explore her individuality through discussions, team-building activities, take home challenges, collaborative decision-making and problem solving programmes.
• For the girl child to explore the possibilities that are available for women, and also instills perseverance, dedication, teamwork, responsibility and a positive attitude in young girls.
• To encourage young women not to shy away from opportunities, not to feel threatened by others that might have more and to be bold and maintain posture and positive lifestyles.
• To address the physical, emotional and social aspects of a girl’s life by creating a safe space for discussion around issues of women’s health, wellness, financial wellbeing, social change, embracing leadership potential and cultivating strong self-worth
• To Encourage girls to develop and celebrate their own beauty standards without following and believing stereotypes.

B. THE WOMEN EMPOWERMENT PROGRAMME

As women, we have derailed from having authentic conversations with each other because we have stopped caring for one another. Instead, we seem to be jealous of one another and we also laugh at each other’s painful situations and circumstances. This movement is aimed at changing that narrative and stimulating conversations around societal issues and challenges that we as women are faced with. Most importantly, it is about resuscitating that women instinct of warmth, caring, sharing and celebrating of ones successes, happiness and supporting one another.

I want us to be inspired so that we can go out there and inspire others. I truly believe in the saying that when like-minded women come together with a goal of supporting and nurturing one another, the leaps and bounds that we can achieve are limitless.
